Sonu Nigam slams politicians for walking out mid-performance at Rajasthan event, calls it disrespectful

Sonu Nigam recently raised concerns after several political dignitaries, including Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, left his performance midway at the Rising Rajasthan event in Jaipur on Monday. The event, which was aimed at enhancing the pride of Rajasthan, saw delegates from around the world attending to celebrate the state's achievements. However, Nigam expressed disappointment when he noticed that key politicians left during his performance, a move that disrupted the proceedings and was perceived as disrespectful to the artists.

In a video posted after the event, Nigam discussed the incident, explaining that the gathering was significant, with prominent leaders and international delegates present. He noted that he could not see all the dignitaries due to the lighting conditions at the venue. However, once the Chief Minister and other ministers left the event, he observed that many delegates followed suit, creating a noticeable shift in the audience dynamics. Nigam’s reaction was fueled by the perception that the departure of these leaders set a bad example for the public, as it implied a lack of respect for the performers.

Nigam further emphasized that leaving in the middle of an artist’s performance was disrespectful not only to the artist but to the art itself. He referred to such actions as an insult to Goddess Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of music, knowledge, and arts, highlighting the cultural importance of respecting the performing arts. Nigam’s message was clear: if dignitaries needed to leave early, they should either arrive later or leave before the performance began to avoid disrupting the event.

The singer made a direct appeal to politicians, urging them not to attend performances unless they could stay for the entire duration. He suggested that if attending was unavoidable, they should plan their schedules accordingly to prevent leaving midway. Nigam reiterated that this was a matter of respect for the performers, who dedicate significant time and effort to their craft.

The incident has prompted discussions on the treatment of artists at public events, with many supporters echoing Nigam’s concerns about how artists should be treated with greater respect. Fans and industry peers expressed their support for Nigam’s message, with some pointing out that this issue highlights the need for politicians to better plan their attendance at cultural events. The debate continues to draw attention to the importance of respect for both the performers and the cultural significance of such events.
